Grammys Move Musgraves Out Of Country

The Recording Academy has ruled Kacey Musgraves' album Star-Crossed ineligible to compete in Country categories for this year's Grammys. In a letter to Academy Pres./CEO Harvey Mason, Jr., UMG Pres. Cindy Mabe takes exception. "Kacey Musgraves is a beacon in a format ready to push back on the ideas that there is more than one way to succeed, there is more than one sound and perspective for what country music is and most importantly who it speaks to," she writes. Mabe also cites the fact that Star-Crossed utilized the same production and mixing staffs, and most of the same writers, as Musgraves' Golden Hour, which was awarded the Grammy for Country Album of the Year in 2019.
