Benefit News: WBWL, WIRK, WQNU

iHeartMedia WBWL/Boston on-air personalities Colton Bradford, Amanda Jo and Jess teamed with NBC10 to broadcast One Night Only, a television special benefitting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, raising more than $38,000. The Nov. 21 event was simulcast on WBWL and featured performances and appearances by Kane Brown, Old Dominion, Kelsea Ballerini, Jon Pardi, Maren Morris, Lauren Alana, Jimmie Allen and Chrissy Metz. “Being allowed the platforms of two powerhouse media organizations to create an uplifting and entertaining show for families across New England to enjoy safely from home while benefitting and highlighting the kids, families and research being done at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is undoubtedly the peak of 2020 for all involved,” says Bradford.

Hubbard WIRK/West Palm Beach morning duo Tim Leary and Chelsea Taylor wrapped the 18th Annual Friends Feeding Friends food drive Nov. 21 at 6pm ET having collected more than $11,000 to benefit the Palm Beach County Food Bank. “Even though the event changed to a virtual event and Tim was in COVID-19 quarantine, [Tim and Chelsea] were on the air for 12 hours on Saturday,” says OM/PD Bruce Logan. The pair surpassed their original goal of $10,000, and the total donations will provide 68,472 meals.

Summit WQNU/Louisville morning host Gator Glass has finally come down from the scissor lift he’s been living on since Nov. 19 after collecting 2,123 bikes for the Marine Corps Toys For Tots and the Salvation Army of Southern Indiana. “I can’t believe how many people stepped up to give in a year that has been so hard for so many,” says Glass. “It’s amazing to say that in five years, we have put a smile on the face of [more than] 10,000 kids on Christmas morning.” Watch the ceremonial lowering of the scissor lift here.
