WQMX's Steel, Wheatley Depart

Rubber City WQMX/Akron PD/afternoon personality Ken Steel and MD/Promotions Dir. Jody Wheatley have exited after nearly 30 years and 19 years with the station, respectively. Steel joined 'QMX in 1991 and was there when it flipped to Country two years later. He was elevated to PD two years ago (CAT 8/20/18). Wheatley has been with the station since 2001 and was elevated to her most recent post in 2011 (CAT 10/6/11). “It has been an absolute pleasure to be a part of the Akron airwaves for nearly three decades, and I sincerely thank each and every one of you if you’ve ever tuned in, came out to see me at an appearance, shared some beers and stories during a night out, or supported me in any way,” says Steel via Facebook. Adds Wheatley via Facebook, "I guess if I wasn't going to leave this company on my own terms, I at least left in the next-best possible way ... at the top with the best ratings WQMX has ever had, and next to the best boss, coworker and friend I've made along the way." Reach Steel here and Wheatley here. No word on plans for the positions.
